My VW Beetle, well, maybe one day!

For as long as I can remember I have had a fascination with the VW Beetle. It came about when I was only a few years old after watching the ‘Herbie the Love Bug’ movies, I am not sure if I have seen Herbie Rides Again, I think I have, but I definitely remember watching The Love Bug, Herbie Goes Bananas and Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo. They were some amazing films and probably the favourite of my childhood!
Since watching the films though, I have always liked the VW Beetles. I actually like them enough to want to buy one and try and restore/repair one in the future. I would love to be able to work on a such a great car and be able to drive it knowing that I have fixed it. It would be a huge sense of achievement and something that I’d really enjoy doing.
Being able to fix cars is something that I would like to be able to do, I don’t know a lot about them to be honest, but I learn by doing, I can’t learn through theory. I personally believe that I would be able to pick it up fairly easily as that’s how I learn best and from what I have read and watched on TV the VW Beetles aren’t too difficult to work on, especially in comparison to today’s cars.
It’d be nice to be able to work on something with my Dad too, he used to do a lot of work his cars, specifically his old Triumph Spitfire. Once more that apparently is a fairly easy car to work with too and parts for both that and a VW Beetle wouldn’t be too difficult to find.
I like projects, specifically ones that I can get into and spend time on doing, admittedly it would cost a lot of money to do it, but it’s the sense of achievement and satisfaction you get at the end of it and most certainly worth doing for those feelings alone. I actually liken it to that of creating a website. Personally I get a feeling of self achievement as I know that I have put effort and time into making a website that works as it should and looks good.
If I get an problems with my car then I would like to have a go it fixing it myself but seeing as it’s a modern car and I can’t find any maintenance manuals similar to that of a Haynes Manual for it I can’t see that I will be able to even attempt anything on it!
