So Very Very Frustrating.
All day I have been eagerly anticipating the announcement of the vote in the House of Commons today, that being the proposal to hold terror suspects for up to 42 days. I personally think that it absolutely outrageous.
People may say that I didn’t want the vote to go the way of the Government seeing as I dislike the Government and the party in power. I didn’t want the vote to go the way of the Government no, but I also think that it is just so harsh to keep a terror suspect for 28 days, let alone 42 days! The suspects mightn’t know what they’re being held for and especially if they’re innocent. Anyway, why do they need holding for that amount of time? So that the suspects don’t have a leg to stand on and so that so much evidence can be put against them, guilty or not guilty and make it practically impossible to get any sort of defence sorted out.
I honestly can’t believe that even 28 days is necessary, surely the police can get enough evidence in 7-14 days. I believe they do that in other European countries so what’s so different over here? From the way it is portrayed in the media our police force is better than some European ones, perhaps not all though. Then again, it is the British media…
I am just so infuriated that the Government have managed to get away with this. Clearly the concessions and god knows what else have paid off as only 36 Labour MPs rebelled. I’ll put it this way, Gordon Brown has had such a lucky break there, I can imagine that he breathed a MASSIVE sigh of relief this evening. I firmly believe that if he lost this tonight he wouldn’t have been Labour Party Leader for much longer…
On another note I was extremely happy to see that Brown has once again dropped in a recent poll that was carried out. The Conservatives are up to 45%, Labour down to 25% and Lib Dems on 20%. Click here to view the article that I read this from.
