Windows Vista – The Temptation.

I was reading over at Sam’s blog about how tempted he was with Vista. It is quite interesting how people get taken in by the ‘Aero’ effect and improvements in the graphical user interface (GUI). Obviously there are a few other things which are seen as plus points for Vista, but to the bog standard user this is what entices them.

For me though I am not tempted, I tried the beta versions beta 2 and RC1, but nothing from there makes me want to upgrade from XP to Vista. Anyway, I have Ubuntu (dual booted with XP) and I am extremely happy with that, and as it stands I won’t be buying Vista unless I absolutely have to (I can’t see that happening), or I buy a new computer.

One thing that I think halted my enthusiasm to buy it, was in fact the price. I mean, it’s not that I didn’t already know the price, just when I came to buy it, I thought of the price.

Take the £150 ((Upgrade Version)or ~£200 for Normal Edition) coupled with all the possible problems and pretty much came to the conclusion that it just was not for me. Nor, do I think, it was worth it.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not discounting it completely, but my mind would have to be severely swayed for me to consider purchasing it.

In my opinion now would be the worst time to upgrade, I used Ultimate for a few weeks and many applications still dont function correctly on it.

I agree with you though, I wont be replacing XP with it unless I really have too 🙂

@Matt – Yeah I agree, there are too many bugs and security issues with Vista. Anyway, I have no intention of moving onto Vista, I am MORE than happy with Ubuntu 🙂 . The only things I use XP for is web design, graphics creation and Football Manager.
