New Theme.
Over the past few days I have been modifying a theme to suit my needs. I have now finished (I think). I ended up making huge changes from the original theme.
I decided that a change was in order as I was quite simply getting bored of my other one. I am quite pleased with this theme as I think that it is quite simple yet effective. However there are a few problems with it… The problems I am having are -
- Borders round smilies
Text wrapping around images in posts
These are the only problems I have come across so far so if you find anymore please let me know. Or even better if you have a solution for any of these problems please let me know!
There are a few things that I need to improve, one of those is the Recent Comments section. It looks a bit of a mess. I am hoping to get it tidied up a bit. Again, if there is anything you think I should improve please let me know as I would like to hear your views on my new theme.
This is a bit of a short post especially when it is about a new theme however I don’t really have a lot to say to be truthful… If I happen to come up with anything else to say I will pop it straight up.
Update: I have removed the orange footer and some of the plugins on it. I have moved some to the sidebar. The reason I haven’t moved all of them to the sidebar is because I don’t feel as though they were all necessary.
Update #2: After searching around the WordPress support forums I have come across a way to prevent the text wrapping around my images. Just in case anyone else happens to encounter this problem here is how I solved it - Put the following “p” tag around the text which is wrapping around images -
<p style="clear: left">TEXT HERE</p> .
By using the above code it will prevent your site from being XHTML valid. If you want to keep it valid then you will have to style it in your CSS style sheet like so –
.clearleft {
clear: left;
}
Then for your “p” tags you would do the following -
<p class="clearleft">TEXT HERE</p> .

I’m having a few issues with the sidebar crashing the content. The small borders you have cross over the gradient section to the right of the main content. Also, and I don’t mean to sound harsh, the orange is extremely bright! In all honesty I think it detracts from the main content once you see it, draws your eye to it. Something more subtle would be better I think, something that maybe compliments the gradient and drop off you used for the sidebar, really like that bit.
Thanks for the comments Phil, I will look into changing the footer colour and the sidebar issues (I am assuming your using Safari).
It all looks as it should (I assume, anyway
) in Opera and I’m liking the green bar with the number of comments etc. on it below posts. It splits them up very well.
Also, congrats on your 150th day of blogging
.
I am glad you like it Shaun
.
150 days of blogging…It seems like longer than that! (Not in a bad way though)
I’m looking at changing my blog, and am currently looking at migrating over to wordpress, but I want to get my template just right before I do as it be a big job.
I like this! Very nice. I dig the border around the page, and I like the drop shadow.
@Adem – Good idea, there is nothing worse than having to fiddle about with a theme whilst it is live, especially when things go wrong! Good luck on your switch over to WP
.
@Ben – I am glad you like it! Once I had created the drop shadow I realised it was similar to yours, but not too similar.
“7 Very Welcomed Comments »”
I don’t know why, but I really like this message about the comments, it made me smile, and it’s very welcoming! I really like the new design, I wish I could do stuff like this
I am glad you like it Nick
. I am also glad that you like the comments message; I thought I would have something a bit different rather than the normal “5 Comments”.
I like this theme…and I agree with Nick I like the comment quote
