Linthorpe FC v Lakes United Photos – 15/11/09

November 15th, 2009

I know a number of players often search for the photos that I take of Linthorpe FC so I will post the link to the photos on here.

Today the team took on Lakes United of Redcar. Pictures are now online at my Flickr account and you can view them by clicking here.

Linthorpe FC v Cozy Windows – Photos

October 27th, 2009

Since leaving Linthorpe FC (which I will go into on another post at some point) I decided to use the opportunity to take photographs of the team. It benefits me quite a bit really considering that it provides me with time to improve my sports photography skills.

I have recently bought a Canon 55-250 IS to replace my old Sigma 70-300 and am still waiting to see how much better it actually is. I haven’t tested it enough yet I don’t think. I didn’t get that many photos taken due to the weather turning on me and unfortunately I don’t have a lens hood nor a rain cover for my camera yet so I had to stop taking the photos – slightly disappointing but there will be other opportunities.

Anyway, for all those who want to view the photos of the game go to my flickr account here!

Starting a new job.

September 24th, 2009

I started my new job this week, working full time before I start university to get some experience, knowledge and understanding of how the company works and operates, plus I get used to doing the main aspect of my job. I have started working in the warehouse at an online sports company, they do have a small shop on site though.

I have started off working in the warehouse, processing internet and telephone orders. By processing I mean recieving the orders and sending them out to the customer. You don’t quite realise how important it is to read the orders through thoroughly. It’s decent, though, I quite like what I am doing, I know it’s not exactly spectacular as all I am doing is picking items up and sending them off, but I prefer that to other things. At least with that I am kept busy and it doesn’t drag. Now watch… It’ll start dragging!

Once I start university I am going to cut my hours down, though to at least 10 hours per week, that will provide me with a little bit of income and will be useful for my petrol money too! Plus a little extra cash is certainly useful and much welcomed!

It’s fair to say, though, that I am particularly tired after the four days that I have worked. It’s probably down to the fact that I have had no real experience of working so much. At least it provides me with some experience of working full time and will help me in the future when I end up working full time.

The job is made slightly easier, though, seeing as the people there are very friendly – there’s nothing worse that going to work somewhere where the people aren’t very nice.

All in all though it’s fair to say that so far I am quite pleased with it, it’s a decent job for a student, I am integrating well whilst at the same time I am earning a little bit of cash – can’t go too wrong really!

My VW Beetle, well, maybe one day!

September 19th, 2009

For as long as I can remember I have had a fascination with the VW Beetle. It came about when I was only a few years old after watching the ‘Herbie the Love Bug’ movies, I am not sure if I have seen Herbie Rides Again, I think I have, but I definitely remember watching The Love Bug, Herbie Goes Bananas and Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo. They were some amazing films and probably the favourite of my childhood!

Since watching the films though, I have always liked the VW Beetles. I actually like them enough to want to buy one and try and restore/repair one in the future. I would love to be able to work on a such a great car and be able to drive it knowing that I have fixed it. It would be a huge sense of achievement and something that I’d really enjoy doing.

Being able to fix cars is something that I would like to be able to do, I don’t know a lot about them to be honest, but I learn by doing, I can’t learn through theory. I personally believe that I would be able to pick it up fairly easily as that’s how I learn best and from what I have read and watched on TV the VW Beetles aren’t too difficult to work on, especially in comparison to today’s cars.

It’d be nice to be able to work on something with my Dad too, he used to do a lot of work his cars, specifically his old Triumph Spitfire. Once more that apparently is a fairly easy car to work with too and parts for both that and a VW Beetle wouldn’t be too difficult to find.

I like projects, specifically ones that I can get into and spend time on doing, admittedly it would cost a lot of money to do it, but it’s the sense of achievement and satisfaction you get at the end of it and most certainly worth doing for those feelings alone. I actually liken it to that of creating a website. Personally I get a feeling of self achievement as I know that I have put effort and time into making a website that works as it should and looks good.

If I get an problems with my car then I would like to have a go it fixing it myself but seeing as it’s a modern car and I can’t find any maintenance manuals similar to that of a Haynes Manual for it I can’t see that I will be able to even attempt anything on it!

Back and with a re-design

September 17th, 2009

It’s been some time since I last posted on this blog. I tried setting up a new one but lost interest in it. Recently I have found myself with a lot of time on my hands and ended up creating a new design for my website. I liked it that much I thought that I would make it into a WordPress theme for myself which resulted in me having the urge to get back blogging again.

I don’t know how it will work out, I may find that I don’t rekindle as much interest as I had before in terms of actual readers, but I know that it is used as a good information source with varying old posts about Ubuntu and the like, which pleases me as I enjoy being able to help!

What have I been up to? Most certainly a question you may ask, well, I have been studying for my A-Levels and obviously it paid off after managing to obtain a A/A in my ICT course and a B in politics. A lot of hard work went into achieving those grades and as a result I was given an excellent scholarship at the university that I am attending – a bit of extra cash will be useful as a student!

I have been up to a number of other things too, purchasing a MacBook Pro being one of them as well as buying and selling iPods from eBay (I’ve settled with a 2nd Gen iPod Touch 8GB for the moment!). I will be honest, I have caught the eBay bug and like to search for bargains… I’m never off it! Shame that I don’t have the money to purchase much though ha!

Lastly I have invested in a car. I had a little bit of help from my parents but the bulk of it came from myself, although they’re paying my insurance! I decided to go for a small, economical and safe car as I will be doing a lot of urban driving and found a great deal on a little Hyundai Getz. Admittedly it’s not brilliant, but it’s a start and should be reliable for me, it’s only 6 years old so should do the job for me!

So now you know where I’ve been and what I have been up to. I will be honest, I am looking forward to blogging again and hope many of you join me in this journey once more!

Time To Move On….

June 20th, 2008

I have been thinking and I now feel as though the right time to move on is now.

I feel as though a change is in order and would like to move away from the whole completely personal blog so to speak. It’s not as though I dislike the personal feel but I feel as though the whole sort of focus has gone, if ever there was one… I feel as though I need a new challenge and I have since thinking about this I have got myself a brand new design, which I created from scratch and even purchased myself a new domain and web hosting account. I need a complete move from my current hosts too.

I am going to keep this blog open, however, as it still receives lots of visitors from those looking for help on Ubuntu etc and I feel that it is important that people can still access that.

I was going to get in touch with my readers individually, however, I will just post the address here. You will be able to find me now, over at themilkbox.co.uk. I have a kind of focus for the new blog, but as of yet I am not 100% sure. I can definitely say that I’ve lots of ideas for it though and am feeling particularly enthusiastic about it. I am also hoping that podcasts will be a regular feature there…

Also, I would just like to add that I understand that I haven’t been reading blogs recently and I am sorry. Things have been far too busy for me to find motivation to do pretty much anything other than College work and web design work has been at a minimum.

Anyway I look forward to seeing you there and hope that you will all join me in my new journey.

So Very Very Frustrating.

June 11th, 2008

All day I have been eagerly anticipating the announcement of the vote in the House of Commons today, that being the proposal to hold terror suspects for up to 42 days. I personally think that it absolutely outrageous.

People may say that I didn’t want the vote to go the way of the Government seeing as I dislike the Government and the party in power. I didn’t want the vote to go the way of the Government no, but I also think that it is just so harsh to keep a terror suspect for 28 days, let alone 42 days! The suspects mightn’t know what they’re being held for and especially if they’re innocent. Anyway, why do they need holding for that amount of time? So that the suspects don’t have a leg to stand on and so that so much evidence can be put against them, guilty or not guilty and make it practically impossible to get any sort of defence sorted out.

I honestly can’t believe that even 28 days is necessary, surely the police can get enough evidence in 7-14 days. I believe they do that in other European countries so what’s so different over here? From the way it is portrayed in the media our police force (more…)

Looking For Something New…

May 6th, 2008

In truth I probably haven’t had the current design for that long, although, I don’t change it that often. I’m not like Ben at OpenSwitch, his changes regularly ;-) . The good thing about his designs are that each time they are changed they always have the same classy feel and look about them.

But anyway, I am looking to change the design of this place. It is looking a tad bland and a bit samey same. Obviously I haven’t been as prolific as what I should have been, however, I am hoping that it picks up and perhaps a change of theme may aid that.

There are so many different designs that I could go for, perhaps a fat header that stretches all across the page. A one column thin design, a fat footer design, etc etc. There are so many different ways in which this blog could change, but I just don’t know how at the moment. I quickly jotted down a (more…)

Walking With The Enemy

April 27th, 2008

Yesterday I attended the Wear-Tees derby, my first ever away derby which incidentally didn’t go to plan seeing as we, Middlesbrough, lost 3-2.

In truth I don’t get to many away games at all. I attended my first one against Blackburn last season and yesterday was only my second. To be honest I dislike the traveling involved, especially if I end up going on a coach, and it can be too costly after having paid for everything else.

Traveling

Originally I had planned to travel up to Sunderland with my brother and friend, however, after finding out that my brother was in the press box for that game it meant he couldn’t take us as he’d be there much earlier than what we needed to be, plus we’d agreed to follow someone up there. Originally I had been offered a lift by the person who we were meant to be following up, however, I declined, only later to accept the offer seeing as my friend and I had no other way of getting up. He is actually a teacher at my College, in total I had him as a teacher for three years so I know him quite well.

It was a good journey up and luckily seeing as he is a Sunderland fan and has been on many occasions knew an easier way to get to the stadium. If we’d followed the signs for the Stadium of Light we would’ve been considerably later as we’d have to cross the bridge which can get busy. We parked on the south side of the bridge in a car park so it made sense to come in that way.

The journey in total didn’t really take too long seeing as it is only about 30 minutes up the road and there was little traffic on the way there, a tad more on the way back, but that’s because a lane was closed on the road so the traffic was caused by people filtering into the one lane.

Getting to the Stadium

It was extremely strange to be walking to someone else’s (more…)

Explanation Needed.

April 22nd, 2008

Before I begin, yes this is another one of those many occurring posts on here saying why I haven’t been blogging much (which incidentally I hate writing but I need to write something), however, I will turn off the comments to stop feeling obliged to comment to tell me that it’s ok etc as I am fully aware that all of my readers understand and don’t mind me taking time away from blogging. Also I would prefer not to have the comments at this time, nothing against anyone, just my personal preference.

Current situation

Basically at the moment I am under a lot of pressure to get work done, not only on the College front though, I have a web design job on the go as well.

It is that time of year when exams are coming up and there’s a lot of work that needs to go into the preparing of these and that includes getting coursework out of the way for the subjects that require it. I only do coursework in one of my subjects but seeing as I took the double option of ICT which equates to 2 A-Levels there is an awful lot to do in conjunction with everything else. On top of all of the ICT coursework I have an exam approaching which takes an awful lot of preparation as it is a practical exam whereby we are issues the exam paper (and we have been issued it already) and we need to do a lot of preparatory work and research work before hand.

Next comes the fact that the current politics units that I’m doing are particularly challenging for me and require a lot of work, so I am trying to fit that in too… And lastly there is the French work, the preparation for the speaking is the most difficult. I would be happy sitting the reading and writing no problem, but the speaking is going to be very difficult as we don’t know for sure what we will be asked by the examiner, plus we need to talk for 12 minutes!

Driving

I am currently learning to drive as I have previously mentioned which is also taking up a lot of my time, it might only be one and a half hour lessons, but that is a considerable amount of time out of my working schedule on a weekend or evening. I am actually progressing decently well with that I think. Each lesson I feel improvements and feel as though certain progression has been made, even if sometimes it’s only a little.

Web design job

I have a web design job on my hands at the moment too which can take up a fair bit of time, especially when you put in the time and effort that I put into it. The website is actually being developed on a CMS which incidentally is WordPress and once that is done I will probably talk a bit more about it. It is certainly coming along well, meetings with the clients are going well and progress is certainly being made.
